About This Role:

comScore is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Seattle, WA office. This is a position that will provide hands on experience with some of the technologies associated with Big Data, such as Hadoop, PIG, and highly scalable databases. You'll be working on our Ad Validation products, that help up process up to 4TB of data per DAY. You must be proficient with development in Java on a Linux platform, analytical and detail oriented, and be a true senior engineer who can quickly learn the ins and outs of the product and apply this knowledge independently to the software development process.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Build large distributed systems that scale well. Your systems will be processing 500 billion new records every month.
  • Be involved in solving challenging technical problems.
  • Participate in ongoing research and evaluation of new related technologies.
  • Work with Product and engineering teams to develop new Ad measurement metrics.
  • Develop expert technical knowledge of the product.
  • Assist groups outside of Engineering on analyzing and troubleshooting issues concerning reported data.

 

What You'll Need:

  • 7+ years experience in server-side Java development.  
  • Strong full-cycle software development experience. 
  • High-volume, scalable, robust systems experience a plus.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, data structure, object-oriented programming, multithreaded programming and performance optimization techniques.
  • 3+ years database and SQL experience
  • Proficient in Linux platform development
  • Hands-on Hadoop experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team, as well as self motivated enough to independently investigate, define, develop, complete, and follow up on tasks.
  • Strong problem solving skills with a can-do attitude. Should be able to thrive with minimal supervision.

JOB FUNCTION

The person that accepts this position has an interest in social networking data and branded entertainment - and how that data drives purchases and brand sentiment. They like to be challenges with complex problems. The person that accepts this position enjoys wearing many hats, enjoys collaborating with peers, and is equally capable at creating test plans as they are picking up the phone and working directly with internal customers and Product Management. They will collaborate with their Product Owner and Agile team members to create Acceptance Criteria, which they will then from the foundation of their create test plans.

Our Engineering team is a small team of highly skilled data junkies. We wear many hats and do whatever we can to please our customers. Everyone is expected to help where they can. Engineers and managers test. QA Engineers may help write code if they can. There are very few job boundaries with our team. You will never hear "not my job" in our team. The person that accepts this Senior-level position will be responsible for overseeing all quality initiatives for our Branded Entertainment, X-Stream, and SponsorIQ product platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Develop Acceptance Criteria with Product Owner.
• Develop test plans, test strategies, and test cases for the team that satisfy the Acceptance Criteria.
• Oversee all testing activities performed by the team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with software engineering, statistical services, and product management to develop new methodologies to report cutting-edge digital advertising measurement
  • Facilitate product operations including analyzing process and data anomalies, and fielding client inquiries. This includes working with Software Engineers, Operations, Product Support to deliver timely and quality data
  • Help drive process improvements, define QA processes, and integrate process enhancements into production process.
  • Build ad-hoc custom solutions to meet market & internal needs for audience measurement reporting.
  • Work across functional teams to identify and resolve data issues. Apply critical thinking to quickly resolve issues. May require client interaction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative subject such as Statistics, Engineering, Economics, etc.
  • Experience in data analysis and problem solving with large amounts of data.
  • Experience in building methodologies and custom data solutions
  • Ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to autonomously manage simultaneous projects in a fast paced business environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and methods for efficient data retrieval.

This Analyst will help support comScore's relationships with clients at top publishers and media companies by managing deliveries of comScore data, helping clients gain business value from that data, and preparing and delivering reports and analyses.   • Deliver exceptional client service support to leading media clients
  • Communicate regularly with clients and agencies, keeping them engaged and utilizing our data Project management across several accounts, including conducting kick off calls, hosting training sessions with clients and working with internal comScore teams to effectively launch new projects
  • Collaborate with internal teams, working together to keep projects on track and resolving issues as they arise

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a consulting role, with an advertising agency or with a digital media company is a plus Experience with syndicated data or custom market research and specifically analyzing advertising metrics or users Internet behavior is a plus
  • Proven proficiency with numbers and statistics, experience in analyzing large amounts of data, and an ability to consolidate and translate that data into business insight
