comScore is seeking an analytical, and code-quality focused Database Engineer to provide support to existing code and databases and to develop new systems for our Internet web dictionary. This person will work alongside other Database Developers and .Net Engineers to collaborate on requirements from the Dictionary Management team.  If you are an individual that is able to work closely in a collaborative role with other team members, as well as complete tasks individually as assigned, you'll fit in nicely with us.

Required Knowledge and Experience 

 

  • 2 years of SQL database development experience preferably in VLDBs and multi-server production environment. Current experience with SQL 2008/SQL 2008R2/SQL 2012. 
  • Excellent statistical analysis skills, ability to research and analyze various different types of data information, and to effectively manage the delivery of that data. 
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure. 
  • Effective communicators with the ability to maintain honest and open communication at all times with individuals at all levels internally. 
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours (if necessary) to accomplish business objectives. 
  • A passion for, and unyielding pursuit of good, clean code.
  • Experience with Agile development, software and web development technologies (e.g. C#, ASP.NET) is desired
  • Knowledge of replication (transactional) and clustering, as well as OLAP/SSAS/SSIS/SSRS are not required but would be a plus

 

Required Technical Expertise with SQL 2008/2012

  • Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, including transactions, (begin..try, merge, common table expressions, ROW_NUMBER/OVER, bulk insert, Filtering and covering indexes, computed columns) 
  • Experience working with database architecture and schema for very large databases (think Terabytes!) and very large tables (think Gigabytes)
  •  Partitioned Tables/Indexes (Switching/Merging/Splitting). 
  • Performance tuning/code debugging 
  • Hierarchical datasets 
  • Building and maintaining DTS packages

The Statistical Operations and Data Science team provides internal services for building and maintaining data science methodologies behind comScore’s measurement of national and local television, Video OnDemand, and Digital viewership in a Cross-Platform measurement service. Managers in the Statistical Operations group are responsible for managing a team of Data Scientists with a focus on at least one core aspect of these comScore media measurement areas. In this role, Data Science Managers will be expected to manage the tasks of their team's data scientists and contribute to particular analysis tasks themselves when needs require. They will also be expected to manage all aspects of Data Science projects under the direction of Senior Managers, Directors, or above; and work cross-organizationally with Software Development, Product Management, Account Management, Data Operations, Best Practices, and other groups at comScore to coordinate the overall priorities of the team.

 

This Data Science Manager position will provide direct line management of the Methodology team within the Statistical Operations group at comScore. The Methodology team currently serves two primary functions within Statistical Operations. First, the team is responsible for developing the methodologies and data science behind new products, measurement capabilities, and similar enhancements to comScore’s Linear Television and Video OnDemand services. These methodology projects are typically significant efforts that may involve multiple data scientists and last weeks or months at a time. These projects occasionally cross over into comScore’s developing Cross-Platform measurement products, which is likely to continue in the months to come. Second, the team contributes to comScore’s ongoing effort to achieve MRC accreditation for reports and measurement capabilities in the company’s Linear Television and Cross-Platform products. These contributions include responding to requests for information from auditors, and conducting independent studies that validate the individual calibrations comprising comScore’s projection system for Linear Television and Cross-Platform measurement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Manages a growing team of data scientists to developing new methodologies and data science capabilities for comScore’s Linear Television, Video OnDemand, and Cross-Platform measurement services.
• Accountable for hiring, mentoring, performance management, and directing the work of data scientists.
• Independently manages Statistical Operations projects, from data analysis through producing comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders, under the direction of Senior Managers, Directors, and above.
• Outlines project steps, assign deadlines and due dates; assign resources; and coordinate the tasking and project priorities of data scientists to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Simultaneously manages multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced technical environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years of experience in a statistical analysis, data science, and/or business development technical role, with a heavy emphasis on data-driven decision making and quantitative analyses.
• Prior experience in a managerial role overseeing others is a plus.
• Demonstrated success with delivery of accurate, reliable data methodologies and measurement system products.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and SQL is required.
• Proficiency with SAS a plus. Proficiency with other programming languages such as Python also a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate findings to stakeholders and document project deliverables in detail.
• Strong curiosity to learn and apply data science techniques and tools is required.
• Strong business acumen is desired through demonstration of sound business sense and judgment in prior work experience.
• General familiarity with media industry and practices (theatrical, television, home entertainment, advertising, cross-platform, etc.); existing background in media, television, or cross-platform measurement services preferred.
