Google Sites Extend Search Market Share to 82 Percent

French Language Interface Helps Facebook Capture Increased Share of Search

PARIS, France, July 15, 2008 – Comscore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its report on French Internet search activity in May 2008 based on data from the Comscore qSearch 2.0 online search measurement service. This capability, which was first launched in France in September 2007, includes reporting on local market properties where search activity occurs, such as Groupe Pages Jaunes and Skyrock Network, along with the key international search properties such as Google and Microsoft.

Top 10 French Search Properties

In May, Google Sites increased its lead as the most popular search property in France to 82 percent of all searches. French property Groupe Pages Jaunes ranked second with 2.7 percent, followed by three U.S.-based properties, Microsoft Sites (2.4 percent), eBay (2.2 percent) and Yahoo! Sites (2.1 percent). Two other French properties, Groupe Spir Communication (1.6 percent share) and Skyrock Network (1.5 percent share), ranked among the top ten.

Following the introduction of its French language interface at the beginning of March, Facebook.com has increased its share of search in France, breaking into the top 10 in April and reaching a 0.8 percent market share in May.

Other notable findings from May 2008 include:

  • There were 2.9 billion searches conducted in France during the month.
  • 26 million French Internet users made at least one search during the month.
  • French searchers conducted an average of 113 searches per searcher during the month, or 3.6 searches per day.
  • French searchers made a combined total of 749 billion search visits in May, with an average of 3.9 searches per search visit.
