Young Italians Show Interest in Political Websites and Blogs

In Italy, political sites attracted nearly 3.1 million unique visitors during January 2013, an increase of 110 percent compared to the year before. The leading site in the News/Information –Politics category is ilfattoquotidiano.it with nearly 1.3 million unique visitors during the month, an increase of 46 percent compared to January 2012.

Younger Italian internet users (aged 15-24) are also showing a growing interest in political sites as the number of visitors was up 145 percent over the year. Beppe Grillo's recent involvement in the political space is not only shaking up the current political parties, but also having an effect in the online space. The blog, beppegrillo.it, has seen a large surge in popularity, with unique visitors up 156 percent. This increase is even more significant amongst Generation Y (15-24 years olds) as the number of visitors from this age group has grown by 238 percent over the past year.
