Beyond Reach: News Engagement in the UK

In July 2019, 99% of UK internet users accessed a news site. But for any given user, their preferred news site captured 84% of their news consumption time on desktop, and 66% on mobile. In this report we analyse large-scale UK panel and census data to describe how UK consumers consume news, and the implications for publishers and advertisers.

The report looks at, among other topics:

  • The degree of competition in the UK marketplace;
  • The type of news being consumed, and how consumers access them;
  • The profile and behaviours of news readers, by news category;
  • Content preferences of heavy readers of news, and the implications for advertisers.
