25 Million People Watched More Than 2 Billion Videos Online in France in September 2008

Second-Ranked Dailymotion.com Claims a 14 Percent Share of All Videos Viewed

LONDON, U.K., November 27., 2008 – comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore Video Metrix service, indicating that 25.4 million French Internet users viewed a total of 2.2 billion videos online in September 2008. comScore Video Metrix is the only service of its kind in France.

Google Sites Ranks as Most Popular Online Video Viewing Property

Google Sites, driven by the popularity of YouTube.com (which accounted for 98 percent of all videos viewed on the property in September) attracted a 33.2-percent share of all online videos viewed in France. French video site Dailymotion.com ranked second with a 13.5-percent video market share, while another French property, Groupe TF1, ranked third with a 2.2-percent share. Microsoft Sites (1.2 percent share) and Megavideo.com (1.0 percent share) rounded out the top five.

French Internet Users Watched 88 Videos per Viewer in September

25.4 million French Internet users watched an average of 88.4 videos per viewer in September. Google Sites attracted the most viewers (14.6 million), who watched an average of 51.2 videos per person. Dailymotion.com drew the second most viewers (10.7 million), followed by Groupe TF1 (6 million), and Microsoft Sites (5.5 million).

Other notable findings from September 2008 include:

  • 77.8 percent of the total French Internet audience viewed online video.
  • The combined French online video viewing audience watched a total 156 million hours of video content.
  • 14.4 million viewers watched 732 million videos on YouTube.com (51 videos per viewer).
  • The average online video duration was 4.2 minutes.
  • According to comScore M: Metrics and based on a three month average ending September 2008, 3.8 million mobile phone subscribers used their phone to watch any kind of TV or video in France, of which 43 percent were younger than 25 years of age,.
