Pulling Back the Curtain on the 2023 Oscars

With the momentum of a brighter year at the Box Office and several blockbuster nominees, the Oscars were all the buzz this past Sunday, March 12, 2023.

2022 saw the highest box office gross numbers since the pandemic, and this year’s releases drove interest in the awards ceremony.

Content mentioning the awards garnered 90 million actions and 159 million video views across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.1 This was the most engaged award show so far this year.

Everything Everywhere All at Once was the night's big winner, taking home 7 awards and over 15.3 million actions on social.2 The cast's heartwarming stories were the feature of many of the top Oscars posts.Michelle Yeoh, who starred in Everything Everywhere, was the first Asian person to win Best Actress. She had the most engagement on her own pages of any nominee with 1.2 million actions, followed by co-star Jamie Lee Curtis and The Whale's Brendan Fraser.3 Yeoh also got earned attention, with over 15.8 million actions on posts mentioning her.4Ke Huy Quan, who won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Everything Everywhere, also took social by storm with his emotional acceptance speech and reunion with Harrison Ford. There were over 27 million total actions on posts mentioning his name.5

The awards brought attention to several of the nominees beyond social media, and interested audiences headed to Wikipedia to learn more. Oscar winners nearly swept the top pages by views on the following Monday.
